I started out using stiff flex irons now at 70 years old I'm down to Ladies flex and and I can still bang I'm down the middle with no ego to get in my way.. Just wondering what you older guys are gaming?

At 75, lost yardage even with lighter combinations. Still enjoying playing, keeping up pace of play but not disappointed with the score. It is what it is.

I put myself in the "older" section of the age spectrum and I'm still stiff shafts. Here's a question, since my joints are stiffer, does that make my shafts x-stiff

Am 79, went to regular in past three years at advice of fitter. Started with irons and just completed my bag last year with woods/metals. Much easier to hit. Finally let go of the ego, found out it was easier to hit a regular club or truly listened to my fitter. Pick one. Will see when I return in the spring.

I guess I'm a bit of an oddball. In my 70th year and still playing stiff shafts in my irons, and stiff-regular in the woods.
I have Graphite Design shafts in my driver, 3 wood, 5 wood and u505 4 iron. They are all stiff-regular. My driver was fitted at a local golf shop (which I normally avoid) and they wanted to go with a 50g in stiff, but after playing it for a couple weeks I went back to the 60g in S-R.
My last 3 iron fittings ended up with the same shaft - KBS Tour 90 (now Tour Lite). About 10 years ago it was the stiff shaft, then about 5 years later my fitter said I'm getting older so go with the regular. This last fitting we were going to stick with the regular but I was getting the same distance, spin, drop with the stiff but less side to side dispersion, so we both shrugged our shoulders and decided to go back to stiff. So far it's working out, but I think my next fitting I want to explore the graphite options.

I'll reach the 70 year old milestone in mid 2026. I've gone from stiff steel shafts in my irons to stiff graphite this year. The change has helped, but I still think they are too stiff. I've gone from stiff to regular shafts in my woods.Game has gone downhill with age.Handicap has gone from 4 to 10 in the last 5 years. I've lost about a club distance in irons and probably 35-40 yards with the driver. All I attribute to age and less flexibility and rotation.Funny thing though; I got in a simulator with a 7 iron and was somewhat surprised with the results. Distance averaged 155-160. Carry distance was only around 140 yards. My ball speed averaged about 100-102 and the "smash factor" was 5.0 I had no idea what the smash factor was until the tech said that is an optimum number at any age.

I did notice my trajectory was pretty low with a lot of roll out.I'm certain that had to do with less flexibility and extension.Bottom line is I think I'm going to regular shafts to get more height.

Loss of flexibility and rotation is not caused by age. It is caused by our choice to stop doing it. Hit the gym and work on that flexibility and rotation, and it will come back. It takes commitment, but it works.

Time always wins. Pros have swing, fitness, putting, and mental coaches.
Not sure a mental coach can help me, but I found value in coaches for sports medicine, TPI evaluation and fitness routine, and a competent fitter to find areas that can still be improved.
