How important is your putter grip in achieving a regular stroke?

  1. If you use your hands to handle the putter, your grip can have a huge impact on the quality of your stroke. Tour players have shown a preference for stronger grips, which can pull the hands out of the stroke and allow the arms to swing easily. I explain it because many beginners want to focus on the grip but they have no idea. I am a golfer and run a company of putters( https://bestputters2021.com/ ) so I have good information about putters.

Interesting lineup. No mention of any Scotty Cameron putters which seem to have a huge impact on the tour and among a large number of lower handicap players. No TM or png which has a large presence as well. Of those listed see the two ball which has been around for many year still is a good putter. That Titleist Bulls Eye Wilson knock off goes way back was made a lot of money for Corey Paven as a Titleist putter. A good putter is all about feel and alignment. Do not change putters very often. I play a SC Newport 2 Notchback 2016 model in chrome and it meets all my needs. Regarding a putter grip, I have a GolfPride SNSR 104 Tour and love the soft feel. The stars are all in alignment. With respect.

As this site is sponsored by Titleist, not many of us will be promoting other products. While I did limit my fitter to recommend Scotty putters, I went through a full SAM lab evaluation to define the optimal loft, lie, and arc for my swing. As well as a grip recommendation.

The evaluation confirmed my experience. I tend to push face balanced putters and pull blade style putters heavily toe weighted. The one surprise was recommending the Pistorelo grip over an oversized grip. Hitting a few balls on an indoor carpet is not a good evaluation. I found I could adjust my swing to accommodate just about any putter to hole a few from 8 feet. Getting fit probably did more for my game than a driver fitting. ….If I could read a green better……

For me, being left-handed, SC is an existential crisis. I love the feel and balance over most other putters but the options are limited. I don’t see me taking my Futura 7s out of my bag in the years to come.

I am currently gaming a Scotty Cameron Select Newport 2 Notcback and my stroke relies more on the putter's balance and how the ball reacts on the putter's face than on the putter's grip.
