I've been wanting to play penants for the last couple of years. And finally the stars aligned for my first start. Well it couldn't have been better, getting to dormie 5 up with 5 to play. Then step up to the 127m par 3 5th hole at Manurah Country Club. Its an awkward number for me I either take a bit off a PW or get after it a bit more with the GW. I decided to take a bit off a PW to control it a bit more.
The strike was pure and half way through the air I thought to myself "one time", I must have said it dozens of times before. Haha. But this time was different, I watched the ball bounce before the hole, stop, and spin back towards the hole. Then it disappeared. I couldn't have dreamt it up any better.
My team mate who had just finished the hole threw his hands in the air and shouted "that just went in !!". I didnt know what to do, I dropped my club and gave it the old Lleyton Hewitt "C'MOOOONNNNNN!!!!!!", maybe even a few "WOOHHOOOOOS" in there to. So loud guys on a couple of fairways over were applauding. Stoked is a massive understatement.
My opponent gave me a big hug, multiple high 5s, and then proceeded to shake my hand. And just like that, my first penants match was won 6 and 4. With an ace !!
After many many health concerns, not only of my own but of my wife and kids aswell. Golf has been my outlet, I've always played but not tried to get any better. But that has changed the last 18 months. Moving from a 21 handicap to a 7.3 now. It gives me peace, something to look forward to, something to work on. I do it for me. Let's see what happens next
