Our golf group consists of eight guys. Seven are married. Six have babies all under two. Our group text is called the Bogey Boys. We have been playing together since college. With more time dedicated to family and less time to get away for golf, we make it a point to organize the Bogey Boys Cup once a year. We do it semi-locally and as cost efficient as possible.
This year we played three courses in Western Oklahoma. Seventy-two holes in 36 hours. This was on the calendar and approved by the wives months in advance. Unfortunately we had some high winds, even by western Oklahoma standards.
It was during round two of competition ant my home course, Prairie West Golf Club, I faced a straightforward 156 yard shot, but had a 30 mph cross wind. I clubbed up to an 8-iron and tried to knock it down and into the wind. There was just enough cut on the ball that the wind moved it from the left edge of the green, so we knew it was going to be safely on for a putt. As it landed the side spin and wind help trickled the ball towards the left-middle pin. My playing partners on the tee box watched with me as it rolled towards it, but we were not certain until our friends on the 11 tee box threw their hands in the air and began running towards us!
With 8-iron in hand I ran down the length of the hole and was met with a chest bump and high fives. First hole-in-one with a gallery of friends to celebrate with. A lifetime memory!
