I love hats, I wear them all the time. I buy a ton of hats just because I’m always wanting something new.
I know this topic has been discussed on here before, but I really think it would be great for Titleist to revisit their hat designs, specifically when it comes to fit and materials.
I have a larger head, and Titleist hats rarely fit me. Once in a while I’ll find one, maybe 1 out of 10 and it usually feels more like a manufacturing fluke than intentional sizing. Even when I do find one that technically fits, the material tends to run hot. I know I’m not alone in this, several friends of mine have mentioned the same thing. We all want to rep our favorite brand, but the fit just isn’t there.
I’ve noticed a lot of companies collaborating with Melin, and they seem to have figured this out. I wear an XL Coronado, and it fits great. It can be a little warm at times, but the durability and structure are excellent. I’ve also seen other brands use stretch materials or spandex (FlexFit-style), which helps considerably.
Even something as simple as slightly increasing overall hat size would help, smaller heads can always tighten them down.
I understand that Titleist may not be overly focused on the hat market, but I do think they’re missing a segment here. Other companies have clearly been addressing this issue over the years.
I know Titleist tried offering XL/XXL hats in one or two styles, but without adjustability, that didn’t feel like the solution. I also hoped the flat brim style would work better, but on larger heads it still looks awkward, almost like it was scaled for a smaller profile. Especially when they came out with the trucker version of the flat brim.
Melin has figured it out. I’m hopeful that Titleist can eventually offer better options for golfers with larger heads.
