10.5* driver... can I hit a 9.5* now?

I have a 905R 10.5* with the stiff ProForce V2 shaft... my issue is I feel I have too my height on the ball.  I was fitted and added an 1" to the shaft length to feel more comfortable swinging.  It has helped tremendously but I'm still getting a lot of air.

I'm worried it's killing my distance.  I'd say I range from 260-280 with my driver now.  Sometimes if I hit it just right I'm pushing 300.  I hit NXT Tour or ProV1x balls.

Thoughts?  Will dropping to 9.5* help hit longer and lower?

    thanks!

Dont mess with a good thing. If your happy with the results keep the loft but with all being said if your going to update to the new 910 which i think anyone who has one would recomend getting the new 910. I recomend a good fitting just let the fitter know you would like to bring your ball flight down alittle and im sure he will find the right head and shaft combination for you.

If this driver was working, then suddenly it wasn't, then your swing has changed. I'd guess you are now swinging more up on the ball.

The 905R is a high launch low spin head, which for your swing speed would need more of a sweeping swing.

Loft is more about the amount of spin from a particular line of driver. So a 9.5* 905R will produce less spin than a 10.5* 905R, but a 9.5* from another line of drivers may produce more spin than the 10.5* 905R.

Okay.  I've always hit it high with this club.  I wasn't fitted for it originally.

I was fitted recently for a D3 10.5* with RIP shaft.  I'm just worried that i'll buy the 10.5* and it will still launch high....

I would definitely think about a 9.5 or even 8.5 (which is what my D2 is). Remember that with the adjustability on the driver you add +1.75 in loft but only subtract -.75. Given this a 9.5 would give you a range of 8.75 to 11.0 and an 8.5 will give you a range of 7.75 to 10.0.

If you were fitted for a 10.5* D3 then you should know what that ball flight will be.

If somebody just said "you need a 10.5* D3 with a RIP shaft", then I wouldn't call that being fit for ......

Just guessing on the data presented, you hit the 905R too high and lose distance, with the 905R being a high launch low spin driver, and the 910D3 being a mid launch med-low spin, I'd guess you will gain distance at 10.5* loft.

If you really should be hitting 300y drives then 10.5* may be too much loft, but hey, the 910D3 is adjustable.

So how do I make sure i don't swing up on the ball?  :-)

If you are changing to a 910D3 then you want to continue hitting up on the ball, it is a lower launch head.

To use the 905R more effectively, tee it low, position it in your stance the same as hitting 3w off the ground, then let it fly.

Notice in your other thread the fitters are telling you pretty much the same thing I did in this thread, except they are leaving out the why.

    Quintin, thanks for the advice.

Out of curiosity where do you position your 3-wood?  I'm close to inside of front (left) foot like my driver.

The Titleist guy had me tee it higher when hitting the D3 but never said to keep it lower than that for the 905R I have.  Make sense now... teeing it higher isn't working with my 905.  So like 1.5" off ground?  My irons/rest of clubs I tee about .75 to 1" off ground.

    thanks!
