The serial number is not a rock solid identifier. The forgers will “borrow” an actual factory serial number.

If you purchase from a third party not a licensed Titleist dealer,
    1. If the price is too good to be true, that’s because it isn’t real. A GT should still be worth well over $500.
    2. If is shipped to the US from outside, it is a forgery.
    3. If it comes from a small outlet through eBay, unlikely they will guarantee authenticity
    4. If you buy it from an individual, can you trust their chain of custody?

For #3 and 4, there are thousands of “garage based” resellers. They buy low, sell high but don’t have the expertise to verify their products. An individual will likely have under 100 transactions. Those should be willing to document where they got the club from. Otherwise, run…

There is no verification by serial number anymore. The serial number is used if you have a warranty claim as it is on your original receipt. If you purchased your club from another individual or a non authorized dealer or shop, you could have a concern.
