Chipping with graphite vs steel shaft irons

Probably more weight related impact than just steel versus graphite. You can get heavier weight graphite these days that will have the club feeling similar or just invest the time getting used to the different overall feel. Definitely a personal choice. I use steel shafts in Vokey wedges, I prefer the feel as it feels more stable.

Were you fit for the graphite shafts you selected? Graphite in of itself can replace steel. There are pros using modern graphite shafts in all their clubs. Dropping the weight and shaft stiffness will result in a much different feel from most steel shafts. Did the graphite shafts improve your full swing shots with those irons?

This gets into part of the reasoning for split sets. If your old irons were not performing well in the 4-5-6 iron range, maybe they were the only ones that needed to be reshafted. Maybe a steel-fiber shaft or a heavier/stiffer graphite shaft would be a better option than the new shafts.
