I'm awaiting the arrival of my new AP1's. I last changed my irons 9 years ago so was wondering if there were any tips for getting use to my new clubs during UK winter months so I'm ready for the start of next season.

I will play 2-3 rounds a month during December, January and February and go to the range and hit of mats 2-3 times a week.

    ADowns,

Congrats on the new irons. I got the new AP1s last spring and really love them. The only tip that I can give is to get use to the new distances that you will hit them. I tend to flight the ball a bit low and was really happy that the AP1s give me a bit more height. But I seem to be about a half a club shorter in distance. I'm 68 years old so I'm sure that my swing speed is slowing which probably accounts for the distance loss. My main suggestion is to just keep track of your distances while you're at the range and again on the course. These are Titleist clubs so they are the best, so after a few rounds you should be dialed in just fine. Fairways and greens.

    Thanks Mark.

I'm hoping these don't fly too high as I don't have a problem getting the ball airborne, it fact too much height is one the problems I have. It seems most of the clubs these days are helping launch.

I was planning to go and get the distance checked once the new season started and I'll check yardages with my GPS while playing during the winter.

    AD,

I have been using my set of AP1s since this January. I am getting about 1 and 1/2 clubs extra distance over my previous set of Titleist 735s. These AP1 clubs hit higher and much longer than anything you may have used before. Regarding mats, I am not a big believer in hitting off mats. I developed, golfer's elbow once before from hitting off mats and this is something so painful you do not want this. Also, the constant shock of hitting of mats will eventually lead to the shaft to fail and shear off at the hosel. This has happened to me many times before so I just don't practice from a mat anymore. Best wishes with your new irons. Wait until you see how good these are from the rough! Wow!

Clubs have arrived but neck injury is preventing me playing/practicing so just polishing them for now....

Well, I went from the 714AP2 XP 95 shafts to the 716AP1 XP 105 shafts. I am 70 and needed a little more distance and forgiveness. The new AP1s fit the bill for me. The new AP1s are designed to be longer and getting used to the new distances was an issue at first. They got me the distances I wanted to obtain at my age. Like hit the 7 iron 150 yards again. It has taken a while but I seem to have gotten somewhat dialed in, but understand I am very pleased with the irons and am playing around a ten handicap. I went to a titleist certified fitter for a proper on this set up. I hope you like yours as much as I am enjoying mine. My set up is 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, PW, W and two Vokey wedges.

    Chuck,

Like you I wanted a little extra distance as I'm still trying to reduce my handicap. I prefer the smaller head of AP2 but forgiveness is going to help in the long term so I'm 5 to gap with graphite shafts and sticking with my RTX wedges for now.
