I attended a Title Thursday a few weeks ago looking for new irons. I had hit both the AP2 and AP1 in the trial sets at my course so wanted to get a better look at those.

I warmed up and the fitter immediately handed me the CBs. He said based on watching me warm up his initial thought was the AP1's would be too much SGI/thick top-line. The CBs were very nice and surprisingly long. For comparison sake I hit my miz JPX825Pro 6iron 180-185 at altitude. The CB was close to 190. However, for my eyes and game I thought they were a little small looking for me. Hit the AP2's and lost yardage and ball was all over the place. We then discussed what to try next. He asked if I had heard of the TMB's and C16. Uh, of course! Hit both and was very impressed by both. However, the cost swayed me away from the 16's so I continued with the TMBs. Man are these things sweet. Everything I hit (including misses) had a nice flight to them and just kept going. I was hitting the TMB 7iron 195-200. Truth be told I've always been a KBS shaft guy but hit the TMBs with the AMT shaft. I really liked it. I'm also suffering from tennis elbow so we thru the Kuro Kage 85g stiff graphite shaft in there as well. It was nice but other than the weight I couldn't really tell a difference at impact.

So this leads me to my questions. For those playing the TMBs, what shaft are you playing?

If you are hitting those clubs that well, I would not be worrying about what shafts other golfers are hitting. When you see a fitter, it is all about you and your game. To hit a seven iron 200 yards. Only in my dreams. Hope you bought those clubs.
  3. Bert, I have the long irons and use the Project X PXi shafts....about 10% lighter than the standard Project X shafts...

    Hope that helps!

Bert, My 6i & 5i on 716 T-MB are NSpro Zelos7. can be ordered through Titleist (off menu option) They are very light compared to AMT or any other steel shafts- they're like graphite light. These shafts competes with graphite for its weight and performance- the lightest steel shafts out there today. dispersion is tighter on the stiff compared to regular. I love its performance.

My 716 CB 7-PW are all with the same NSpro Zelos7.

I play the KBS C-Taper 120 S in both my TMBs (3i-5i) and my AP2s (6i-PW) and I have tried all the other shafts. The KBS C-Taper feels best to me and my shots fly how I want them to more often. I don't think the head makes any difference in what you like in a shaft, at least for irons. I even had the C16 irons with the KBS C-Tapers in them, but the clubs ended up not being right for me (fortunately, they were right for a buddy of mine).

    I'm using Project X 6.5 in my 3-GW T-MBs and like them.

I have the AMT in mine, fantastic shaft. Has the kick of the Dynamic Gold, but lighter and really gets the long irons up in the air. Easy to elevate, but not balloon.

    Thanks for the reply fellas.

Chuck - Did not buy them on the spot but they are at the top of the my list.

Dave D - What shaft did you previously play? Has your dispersion changed/improved with graphite?

RJohnson - I did like the AMT. Previously, not a big TT fan - just didn't get along with the feel.
