I recently got a set of ap1's and liked them a little because I got a little more distance out of them but I keep using them I noticed that they are kind of a wild set of clubs. I used the 712 cb and liked them a lot for shot shaping ability but I didn't have that much distance though. I want to get rid of my ap1's but don't know what to go to now. my swing speed is about a 85. I like the shape my shots a lot when I play and the ap1's don't like to shape the ball to much.

Hi Jeff. You will probably get a lot of comments here that advise you to see a certified Titleist fitter in response to your question and they will all be spot on. Working with a certified fitter and explaining your goals to him/her will ensure you get into the appropriate heads and shafts. If you have an advanced fitting center near you or can make it out to Oceanside or Manchester Lane you can also get a "tour pro" type fitting experience. If you can swing it, I certainly would recommend it! From my own experience, I believe the AP2's are a good blend of forgiveness and workability. I have had each iteration of the AP2's and they just keep getting better. They have the distance on miss-hits and you still have the ability to shape your shots. I have tried the AP2's side by side with the AP1's for the last couple of generations and prefer the feel of the AP2's. Just my thoughts, for whatever it is worth, but go work with a good fitter and you will end up with the clubs that are the best fit for your game and goals.

the pro at my course called the titleist fitting center and they told him that the ap1's are what I should be using. I knew from the beginning but thought I could go back to a cast iron again but I was wrong after a few rounds and range practices. I have hit the ap2's and some blades before and just like the feel of a forged iron mostly. I don't what to buy a set of the ap2's and end up not liking them because they are a lot of money for those bad boys. but I will probably go back to the cb's though because I loved those set of clubs and I let other people tell me what I should be using instead of going with what I like more.

I went with my gut feeling once in purchasing a set of clubs instead of listening to the professionals and that was the worse mistake I ever made. Never was able to hit the irons. From that day on I listened to the pros/fitters and then worked on the clubs, allowed for that break-in period, learned to trust my swing and let the club do the job. My buddy always tells me; "Chuck, it's not the arrow, it's the Indian", and you know, he is right.....

Not to be rude but why go from a shot making club to a game improvement club?  First question I would have is did you have either set of clubs fitted?   I have similar swing speed and was fitted with some KBS shafts with my AP1'swhich really made all the difference in my shot/game.

my ap1's are fitted for me but the feel from a forged iron to a cast iron is just not the same is all. I like the feel of a forged iron a lot because how soft it feels with a good strike.

The AP2s should be a great fit for you. The 714 AP2s are as forgiving as the original AP1s, which is saying a lot. You can work them when you need to but when your game is off, there's a lot of help there.

As always, make sure you're fitted properly, that can make the biggest difference.

    good golfing,

I would recommend getting fit by an authorized Titleist fitter.  Sounds like a set of AP2's may be in your near future.  I played a set of 735CM's till the AP2's came out.  Like you, I tried the CB's but have returned to playing my 714 AP2's and there has been no looking back.

    Good Luck

I don't know if there is a titleist fitting center near where I live but my ap1's are fitted pretty good for me though. I was thinking about trying the ap2's out because they're a forged iron and I like the way they feel off the face more than a regular cast iron.

Had same problem when I got mine this year.  But now that I'm used to them wouldnt trade them in.  If you're lookin to work the ball more prolly would go with the ap2s.  Good luck to ya.

The whole workability thing is a gimmick in my opinion. I play a mb/cb combo only because I like the look of a smaller head and DISTANCE CONTROL. In my experience larger cavity back irons have that random ball that goes 8 to 10 yards further when you catch it right. Yes they are more forgiving and allow you to launch the ball higher but if you wanted to draw an ap1 you can do it, if you wanted to fade and ap1 you can do it. If your concerned with distance stick with the ap1 and just work on your technique, use the money for a lesson or two instead.

I agree, very important to get fitted. I had a similar experience. I was fitted and could have gone either AP1 or AP2. I went AP1 and enjoyed them but struggled with lighter club head feel (kbs shafts, D1 swing weight). Just this past week I made the switch to AP2 with KBS (soft stepped) and D3 swing weight. The difference was pretty significant, for me. Very impressed with forgiveness of AP2. Turf interaction is also better for me with AP2. I think the AP1 could use a little more bounce in the next model. Both great irons, comes down to fitting and what works best for you.

My last set was a cb 712 and I liked the look of those a lot better because of the smaller club head but they wasn't fitted for me and the shafts was to stiff also. A lot of people say I have a good swing and tempo for not playing that long. I tend to over fade and draw the ball with the ap1's but the cb's I had the right amount of fade or draw on the ball a lot more also.

Did you change shafts and swing weights? Sounds like the clubs might be a little light for you. Let's see what the Titleist experts have to say.....
