    Hey Team Titleist,

I'm a low handicapper (8) and I strike the ball better than that would suggest.  I would like to move on from my Burner 2.0 irons and was looking for suggestions.

    Thanks!

    Will,

The irons models I would recommend would be either the 712 AP2, CB or MB.  The 712 AP2 will be the most forgiving of all three, while still giving you high workability.  The MB and CB will provide maximum workability with slightly less forgiveness.  I would say the 712 AP2 would play closest to the Burner 2.0.  To learn more about these irons, click on the link below.

    Cameron -

Can you tell me what would be a comparable model of irons for  mp32? I currently play with those but, have seriously been looking at getting 712mb -

Hi, Will!  I'm a low single digit HCP (currently at about 3.1 GHIN), and I play AP1 cavity irons.  I think it really comes down to your comfort level with the equipment you choose.  I'm always annoyed by people who think that once you reach a certain skill level that you have to use blades or something like that.  I have no problem using the cast cavity clubs, and as long as I can score low, that's all that matters.  In fact, I'm often outscoring a lot of guys who play with blades, LOL!

I suggest you try a few things and then sit down and give it a great deal of thought as to what the positives/negatives of each were.  In the end, it comes down to two things, IMHO: comfort level (which translates to confidence in the chosen equipment) and consistency with said equipment.

I started out with the AP2 irons, but never got used to the softer feel of the forged clubs and ended up selling them (as it was too late to return them) and getting the AP1 irons, and now I'm happy!

    Good luck!

  6.      I am also an 8 handicapper like you. I was recently using titleist 762 irons untill i swithced to a 712 cm and mb combo. I have mb in the 7 though pw and the cb 3 through 6. I have found this combination to work really well for me. I hoped this helped.

  7. Hello Will,

Don't let your handicap choose your irons for you. Look into the demo days in your area and hit clubs from all the vendors. Your hands will tell you what irons are best for you. Then, of course, get properly fitted.

    Good luck.

  8. Will - I'm an 8 also.  I use AP1s.  I've hit AP2s.  They are actually pretty comparable, but AP1s definitely have less feel and are more forgiving.  I also think AP2s look better, but the AP1s look pretty good too.  Hit them both and see which one feels best.

  9. It's always best to get properly fit. Ben Curtis uses the AP1's, RORS the MB's, and so on. It all depends on what YOU want out of your irons. More forgiveness? More work ability? A mixture of both?

The AP1s are the best I have hit so far.   I can also do shot shaping and they are forgiving.

I haven't played forged irons since I had the X31s.

I'm an 8 as well and just got fitted a few weeks ago. Planned on getting the ap 2's but the 1's were awesome. I went with what fit me better and could not be happier. Plenty of workability and lots of forgiveness. Hit them all and you'll know what feels best.

FWIW, I'm a 7.5 HI, 52 years old, and playing blades for the last 25+ years.  I switched last season to the 710AP2, and I've never been happier.  Just go with what feels best to you,m and don't worry about whether or not the clubs are "good enough".  There are plenty of tour pros playing AP!s and AP2s, and you can  bet they strike the ball way better than we do!!

    Enjoy!

If you are really looking for the right irons, go get fit for them.  See a PGA pro and see which irons are the best for you.  Being comfortable with a particular brand is important.  If you like Titleist, tell the pro at your fitting that you are only interested in the Titleist line.  The bottom line is that irons are a significant investment - get the right ones...

I agree with the AP2's because they give a good forgiveness however you can shape them if you wish. They also give a slightly lower trajectory. I recommend looking at this
