Found this article today on GolfWRX. Here are the highlights. Very interesting. (I always thought that the tour pros play the same ball as we do. Guess not).

Patrick Reed's ball change pays dividends,

Good stuff from's Andrew Tursky on Patrick Reed's projectile switch..."While Reed has switched golf balls multiple times throughout 2019, he had settled into a Titleist Pro V1 "left dot" prototype. Fordie Pitts, Titleist's Golf Ball R&D rep, once explained to PGATOUR.COM that the TOUR-only, left-dot prototype golf ball spins "a little bit less and aerodynamically it flies a little lower."

Yeah, I tried to explain this to someone who posted a picture of one on the Facebook site only to be attacked by the "trolls".

Very interesting. I too always thought that the Pro VI and V1X were the same for all.

Many of us want to have the option to play the exact same Titleist equipment as the Titleist Ambassador's, not just the golf balls, but clubs, clothing, etc. Why is that not offered?

  5. “Spins a little bit less” and “flies a little lower.” Isn’t that what the AVX does?

Prototype is the key, not retail version. Just like when some of you are chosen to test balls.

I guess it's ok for the pros to play a different configuration of the ball. After all, they play a different game. As a senior player, I look for a ball that I can compress with my slower swing speed and the Velocity or NXT work for me. I was involved in a Titleist ball test and I think the outcome was the AVX. Good ball, for sure.
